The Welsh seaside resort of Swansea Bay could be an unlikely hit with international tourists this year, as thousands of holiday guides make their way overseas.
NewsWales.co.uk reports that more than 5,000 copies of the Swansea Bay Holiday Guide have been ordered since the beginning of the year. A sizeable number of these are being sent to a variety of far-flung destinations, including Australia and the United States.
Considering the guide was only published this year, hopes are high that Swansea Bay could be a sleeping hit for the international community. The coastal resort is easily accessible for those flying into Heathrow and affordable, if they take out cheap car hire.
Guides have additionally been sent to France, Germany, Spain and Portugal - as well locations within the UK.
ThisIsSouthWales.co.uk speculates that the increase in interest in the destination could be down to Swansea football team's inclusion in the English Premier League.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council's cabinet member for culture, recreation and tourism, acknowledged that the local council is indeed trying to capitalise on the success of the sporting achievement.
"Swansea's name is featuring in news and sports bulletins all over the UK and across the globe. Our marketing activity connects that exposure to wonderful images of Swansea Bay, Mumbles and the glorious Gower Peninsula. We're maximising the benefit of this increased awareness," he said.
