Car Hire Cyprus – Cities and Towns
easyCar has car rental facilities at Larnaca Airport and Paphos Airport, as well
as in downtown Limassol City and Paphos.
Paphos is an ideal base from which to hire a car and combine a relaxing beach holiday
with cultural visits. Originally the capital city of Cyprus and now included on
UNESCO’s list of cultural and natural treasures of the world’s heritage, it boasts
a picturesque harbour, which is overlooked by Paphos Castle. Attractions in the
city include the District Museum, the Byzantine Museum and the Aquarium. In Kato
Paphos, a district of the city close to the harbour, you can park your hire car
and see the ancient Paphos Mosaics. You can also drive to nearby attractions, such
as the Tombs of the Kings, situated about a mile to the north-west of the harbour,
in your rental car.
Larnaca is another of Cyprus’s main tourist destinations and is a great place to
use as a base for a rental car holiday.. Its sea front is lined with palms and expensive
yachts, and there are many shops, restaurants and tavernas in the city. Other attractions
include the 14th century Larnaca Fort and the Salt Lake, which is a paradise for
bird watchers. Use your rental car to explore more of this part of Cyprus and visit
Ancient Kition, with its Phoenician Temple of Astarte, or head for the village of
Mazotos and enjoy a camel ride.
Car Hire Cyprus – Coast and Nature
Cyprus is known for its beaches and rocky coastline, and if you hire a car, you
can reach the coast easily, no matter where you’re staying. If you’re based in Paphos,
you can use your rental car to explore the west coast of the island – enjoy the
beach at Coral Bay, or see Aphrodite’s Rock where, according to Greek mythology,
the goddess rose from the sea. For a break from your rental car, take a boat to
Lara Beach to see the turtle hatchery. If you’re staying in Larnaca, use a rental
car to get to Phinikoudes Beach or McKenzie Beach, both of which have been awarded
the Blue Flag.
Inland, you can see some of the island’s other natural attractions – jump in your
rental car and head off to the Adonis Baths, a waterfall under which Adonis, Aphrodite’s
lover, was said to have bathed, which is just outside of Paphos.
Car Hire Cyprus – Driving Tips
Drive your hire car on the left-hand side of the road. Seat belts are compulsory
in Cyprus and mobile phone use is prohibited. Road signs in Cyprus are in English
as well as Greek, and distances are marked in kilometres, with speeds in kilometres
per hour. Don’t use the rental car’s horn between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. or near a Cypriot
hospital. Your hire car may not be taken from the southern Greek area of Cyprus
to the northern Turkish side.
